The goal of this project is to empower the next generation of professional workers with the skills and ethical foundation needed to harness AI responsibly and effectively. By developing and evaluating an innovative online course on Trustworthy AI Practices, this initiative explores how early training can shape not just individual success, but collective success in integrating AI responsibly in workplaces across the U.S. and the world. Using longitudinal surveys, we track student progress through the course to better understand the relationship between responsible AI use, adoption, and career success. The project will result in academic journal publications (following a research trial) and scalable online course materials that will be integrated across UC Berkeley and made publicly available.
Ultimately, this project builds from a single, powerful insight: the barrier to realizing AI's transformative potential isn't technology, it's trust. When people understand what responsible use means in practice, they unlock AI's benefits while safeguarding against its risks. As part of the course, we feature guest lectures from experts at UC Berkeley and the extended community to share insights from their research and experience. Through the creation of engaging, practical training modules that bridge academic research and workplace application, this research builds a path forward where ethical AI practices become second nature, empowering individuals to use AI with confidence, integrity, and human agency at the center.
