Welcome

Driving critical research, innovation & collaboration towards responsible AI.

As AI innovation continues to accelerate rapidly, so too must research examining its implications on society and methods for advancing more responsible AI design, development and deployment.

The BAIR Responsible AI (Re-AI) Initiative conducts cutting-edge research and projects, while supporting an inclusive community of researchers across AI and social science disciplines to advance understandings around theories and practices for responsible AI. At the intersection of AI and society, this includes topics spanning transparency, fairness, equity, privacy, safety, security, accountability as well as broader considerations of labor and environmental impacts.

Based in the UC Berkeley AI Research Lab (BAIR) while collaborating with researchers, practitioners, and leaders in a range of disciplines and industries, we explore innovations for creating more responsible data, methods, and models that enable us to work towards a more inclusive and just world where all humans can flourish.

Re-consider, Re-evaluate, Re-imagine AI.
